robots.txt
The robots.txt file at a domain’s root declares crawling rules by user agent. Excluding unnecessary areas, such as login or administration interfaces, can direct limited crawl resources toward important pages. However, a blocked URL may still appear in search results when linked from elsewhere, even without a snippet. To remove a page from indexing, allow crawling and use noindex rather than relying on a crawl block. These rules are not a substitute for access controls.
Focuses crawl activity away from unnecessary administrative paths and toward valuable content.
Use noindex for search exclusion; robots.txt governs crawling rather than guaranteed removal from results.
